Kevin Nguyen interviews Charlotte Strick, the designer of 2666's U.S. When I read it, I will be completely absorbed by it. No other book has done to me what 2666 did. Even the critical praise is monstrous, from the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award to Time's Best Fiction Book of the same year. 2666 is a novel written by Roberto Bolaño and published posthumously in Spanish in 2004. In the New York Times, Steven Millhauser recently wrote about the distinctions between the genre of the short story and the novel. 2666 is a monstrous novel, in every conceivable way. Roberto Bolaño died shortly after presenting the first draft of 2666 to his publisher, Anagrama. You can't talk about 2666 without mentioning the book design. 2666.jpg Roberto Bolano's novel 2666 is a turbulent structure. And this is probably why, out of all the 'books' in 2666, I liked Book II best. Now that I have that distance, no tangible perspective has come other than this: nothing else I've read since has been 2666.
